An Independent Affiliate of the Jump$tart Coalition
The Kansas Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy seeks to improve the personal financial literacy of consumers of all ages in Kansas, with an emphasis placed on the financial literacy efforts designed to help low to moderate-income individuals outside of the financial mainstream. Its purpose is to increase awareness about financial literacy and to provide associated resources and information to Kansas constituents including financial education that fosters financial stability and to support the economic empowerment and financial inclusion of low to moderate-income people throughout Kansas.

The Kansas Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is an independently governed, nonprofit organization established in 2003. Our members represent business, government, education, and other nonprofits who have joined together to improve the personal financial literacy of Kansas’ youth.
The Kansas Jump$tart Coalition is an independent affiliate of the national Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. The national Jump$tart Coalition is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1995, the coalition includes more than 100 national partners and a network of 51 state affiliates that share a commitment to #afinlitfuture and to working collaboratively toward common goals.
Our Goals
- Raise public awareness of the need for personal financial education.
- Advocate the integrating of personal finance education into existing curricular standards.
- Enhance professional development of Kansas educators in financial literacy.
- Promote communication and cooperation among Kansas Jump$tart Coalition members.

Committees
The Kansas Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy has formed the following committees in order to achieve its goals.
Communications Committee:Â This committee seeks to raise public awareness of the Coalition and its work.
Partnership Committee: This committee will recruit and support existing partners by identifying opportunities and aligning financial literacy efforts where applicable.
Research Committee: This committee will research and analyze patterns of financially literacy and education throughout Kansas to identify areas for improvement.
Fundraising Committee: This committee will work to raise funds for programs/awards/events through Kansas Jump$tart.
Program Masters Committee: This committee will help arrange the teacher training events offered through Kansas Jump$tart.

There are many ways that organizations or individuals can become involved with the coalition.
Join the Coalition! If your organization or you as an individual are actively engaged in promoting personal financial literacy amongst Kansans, we invite you to become a member.
Support the Coalition! The Jump$tart Coalition is a charitable 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization. As such, in-kind donations such as the printing of promotional materials or hosting of meetings and events are greatly appreciated. The Coalition also welcomes monetary contributions.
Make a difference locally! Organizations and individuals can make a great impact at the local level. Here are just a few ways that you can make a difference:
- Financial Institutions: Volunteer to work with a local school or district to provide classroom presentations or teacher support.
- Educators: Incorporate personal finance within your curriculum. Personal finance has been taught successfully to students of all ages and within many core and elective subjects. For more resources, go to the Jump$tart Clearinghouse and search according to your grade and subject matter.
- Policy Makers: Consider ways to incorporate personal finance education into your school’s curriculum and teacher professional development programs.
- Parents: Begin teaching your child about personal finance at a young age and continue to reinforce these skills. See the Links section or visit the Clearinghouse for more ideas on teaching your child about personal finance matters.

National Endowment for Financial Education – the foundation’s purpose is to promote financial literacy among youth. The following website links to their free High School Financial Planning Program.
The ABCs of Credit Card Finance – a free credit card literacy program that teaches students how to wisely choose and responsibly use a credit card. Target audience is high school juniors and seniors and college freshman.
Practical Money Skills – Financial Literacy for Everyone – Information for both consumers and teachers. Includes articles and lesson plans that can be used in the classroom.
